Prescription Dive Masks FAQ
What is a prescription dive mask?
This mask uses corrective lenses to improve underwater eyesight for people with nearsightedness, farsightedness, or other common refractive errors. Unlike regular masks, a mask with prescription lenses helps divers and snorkelers enjoy clearer, more comfortable vision during scuba diving and snorkeling activities.
Can I use a prescription scuba dive mask for both snorkeling and diving?
Yes. Most prescription scuba mask models are designed for both snorkeling and scuba diving. Whether you stay near the surface or dive deeper underwater, quality lenses and a reliable silicone seal help maintain comfort and clear vision throughout the dive.
Are prescription lenses available for different vision strengths?
Yes. Prescription lenses are available in a wide range of lens strengths, and many models allow different corrections for each eye. Some divers choose nearsighted vision lenses, while others prefer farsighted options for improved close-up visibility underwater.
Do prescription dive masks work for astigmatism?
Some prescription dive mask models support astigmatism corrections through custom lenses. Though our lenses are made for the Sphere part of your Rx, we can indirectly offset the refractive balance using an equation called Spherical Equivalent. Our lens calculator already factors this in, but if your prescription includes a high cylinder then get in touch. We can help you find the right balance.
Can I replace my glasses with prescription snorkeling masks underwater?
For most people, yes. Prescription snorkeling and scuba masks are designed to provide clear underwater vision without needing to wear a pair of glasses before entering the water. They offer a more comfortable and practical solution for diving and snorkeling activities. Some swimmers also prefer swim goggles with prescription or reading lenses for surface swimming and close-up visibility, depending on their underwater activities and vision needs.
What makes a comfortable prescription swim mask fit?
A good Rx dive mask should create a secure seal without excessive pressure on the face. Soft silicone skirts, adjustable straps, and lightweight frame designs help improve long-term comfort, especially during longer dives or snorkeling sessions.
Are anti-fog prescription masks available?
Yes. Many modern prescription scuba mask models include anti-fog features or lens treatments that help reduce condensation underwater. Proper mask preparation and fit also help maintain crystal-clear visibility during dives. You can find some useful tips on our Snorkell 101 guide FREE with every purchase.
What is the difference between premade and custom prescription lenses?
Premade prescription lenses are manufactured in standard correction steps and work well for many divers. Custom lenses are made more precisely to your scuba mask prescription and may be recommended for stronger corrections or more complex eyesight needs. Typically fully custom prescription masks cost $300-$500. While ours start at $70 with lenses.
