Oceans Optics began with two Scuba Diving Professionals who shared one mission, to help everyone experience the ocean clearly, confidently, and safely.
James started out teaching beginners and went on to train divers at a professional level for over seven years.
Airies devoted her career to introducing newcomers to the underwater world, guiding more than 500 students through their first breaths below the surface and helping them become certified divers.
After living in many of the world’s snorkeling and diving hotspots, one thing became impossible to ignore:
People with blurry eyesight were often missing out. Without clear vision, many didn’t feel confident enough to explore, and who could blame them? The only prescription masks available (if any) were fully custom and sold for $300–$400, far out of reach and unrealistic for people just starting out.
At the same time, they saw countless snorkelers being sent into the water with little to no guidance. Families were handed old, worn-out masks and told to jump in, often without understanding the basics of snorkeling or safety. Watching this happen over and over was heartbreaking.
That’s when an idea started to take shape.
“What if we could help people find high-quality prescription masks, ones that actually fit their face and their vision, affordably, before their vacation?”
“And what if we went beyond that, teaching them how to use their gear, how to snorkel safely, and how to truly enjoy the ocean?”
And that’s how Oceans Optics was born, not just a brand, but a movement.
We believe in more than just selling masks. We’re here to guide, to teach, and to empower people to explore the ocean safely and clearly, many for the very first time.
As ocean lovers and snorkel enthusiasts, we’ve built Oceans Optics around purpose, not profit. Within our first year, we used part of our proceeds to plant our first artificial reef, the first of many to come.
We realized we couldn’t wait for change, so we decided to create it. And that’s why we’re here. 🌊
